AUDIO Restoration

Audio restoration is the process of removing imperfections. Creative Audio Works can revive most audio recordings using an array of high-end processing tools and years of experience. We can restore most audio recordings, pops, clicks, crackles, mouth noises, background noise to make the recording usable once more. Audio restoration will be performed either by cleaning the recording medium (for example, cleaning a record or removing mold from a reel-to-reel tape with a cleansing solution) or in the digital realm using restoration software such as iZotope RX. Knowing what to use and how much is essential, as is when to use more traditional noise removal techniques such as EQ, multi-band compression, gating, and the like. Although fully automated solutions exist, audio restoration is sometimes a time-consuming process that requires a skilled audio engineer with specific experience in music and film recording techniques.

At Creative Audio Works, we make the unusable… useable.

This recording was originally made in the 1980s on a Sony F1 PCM type recorder. Transferred by Creative Audio Works from the original Betamax tape, multiple dropouts needed attention to make the program listenable. By transferring numerous passes of the tape, which required adjusting the tracking for each pass, Creative Audio Works reconstructed the recording into a playable file.

Stewart has just completed two projects for me. He transferred a moldy and scratched 1940’s 78 records to CD, and transferred a collection of eleven 1940’s 78 jazz records to CD for me.
